• As P.I.C., give workers who are near or on distribution lines and circuits safety instructions.
• In addition to keeping the necessary operational logs and records, respond to local power disruptions.
• Update the information on the system mimic display as needed.
• In supply stations rated at 35 kV or lower, operate and switch eligible distribution equipment.
• When an electrician is not easily accessible, switch or replace the fuses in the relevant distribution supply stations under fault situations.
• Within the parameters of the job, install and maintain distribution automation equipment, such as batteries, modems, and power-reset features.
• Always abide by BC Hydro’s operational protocols, safety regulations, and any applicable collective agreement requirements.

Requirements for Power Line Technician Jobs:

• Meet the applicable requirements established under the IBEW Collective Agreement.
• Hold a trade qualification as a Journeyperson Power Line Technician with an Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate, or have the qualifications necessary to obtain one.
• Hold a valid Class 3 driver’s licence with brake endorsement.
• Hold or obtain 25 kV Rubber Glove Certification as required for the position.
• Demonstrate the physical ability and technical competence required to safely perform powerline work.
